A Good friend of ours has recently moved out of their home and upscaled to a beautiful new condo. Her challenge was that she wanted an all new contemporary look to her condo, but was not wanting to sell her existing beautiful furniture.
The furniture was beautiful Birch solid wood construction, but she was tired of the wood look.
Her desire was to have a bright new creamy white for her new Condo that feels new and bright for this next stage of her life.
She also had a headboard that was gaining a fair number of good patina dents and everyday wear use. The headboard again was solid pine, but the desired outcome was to have a bright new bedroom, with creamy white furniture.
Fortunately by spray painting this furniture with custom Benjamin Moore cabinet paint, the same furniture is repurposed at a fraction of the cost of buying new furniture, and looks brand new.
The colour chosen here is Benjamin Moore - Barely Beige - CC-140. Hand selected by my client to match and coordinate with the colours of her flooring and walls.

This colour is part of the Designer Classics Collection.
Here are some of the chairs that were beautifully kept and in great condition. This lady loved the rattan seats and wanted to keep them, so I carefully removed them prior to the painting process.
But with the move to her new apartment condo, she just wanted an updated look.
So I carefully removed the legs, the seats of the chairs, and began lightly "scuff sanding" them to prepare for spray painting. Because we used Benjamin Moore paint, she could choose literally any colour from their catalogue of thousands of colours to paint, and match her new colour scheme.
First Steps
The bottom of the table with the legs off is where I started painting first. You can see that the legs and the hardware for table leaves were all removed so as to paint the pieces individually
This picture shows the bottom of the table is done on the first coat, and then it is turned over to start spraying the top. After the sanding, 4 successive coats paint are applied to the top of the table.
Paint does need to be applied very lightly at first coat with the Cabinet Coat product from Benjamin Moore. This insures a good bond. This can only be done properly with a HVLP sprayer, as placing it on with a brush, creates brush marks and the paint will be applied to thick causing a poor bond if brushing it on. It can be done but the finish is much more consistent when properly done with a sprayer.
The Client's Chosen Colour

Here are 2 chairs, One with the first of 4 coats and the other without.
Order is important
Spray needs to be applied to the successive pieces of the chairs from the inside to out, and from the bottom up, to ensure that their are no drip marks, and no dry overlap lines on the outside and top of the chair when finished. This will leave a "factory finish" when completed.
How much paint is Too much paint?
Since the headboard was a little rough, we elected to cover it with 6 coats of paint, after caulking the joints of the trim to ensure that black gap spaces don't show after the paint is completely applied. Here is an example of how smooth and glossy the old headboard looks after the HVLP spray is applied with a # 3 Spray head and needle. After the chairs are completely sprayed 4 times, we reassemble the seats and bring them back to her new Condo by delivery van.
What do you think of the results?
A good close up of the quality of spraying.
Delivered Back Home
And finally the dining furniture is in her new condo.
And the headboard looks great against her new feature bedroom wall.
Thank You.
And I received the sweetest letter the other day from T.R. - July 3, 2015
