A Restored Bedroom , in an old house. Add Baseboard, Lights and a Restored antique Headboard.

This project is a fun restoration of a Brampton House replacing baseboard,   3 new ceiling lamps, and a new stylish restored headboard.   A small budget -a lot of impact.
In this house my friend is renovating,  she had brown door casing placed along the floor as baseboard.   Not bad.  But she wanted something a little nicer to go along with her newly found headboard.  The walls had been freshly painted and it was time to add some beautiful trim.
Above you can see the bottom of the wall without the baseboard.   Notice on the wall on the left there is still a line of silicone that needed to be removed to place the baseboard on flush without gaps.  Those silicone lines were left over from the caulking of the door casing on the floor level.  We removed those with a simple sharp chisel,  being careful not to cut into the wall.

Here are the first pieces of baseboard going up.  They are nailed properly on studs top and bottom for a solid connection, unlike the method used in most homes.  The nails are placed in and then set with a nail set and filled later with Caulk.

One of the challenges at this house was that the closet door casing was inset in an alcove that the closets were built in.  This is unusual in most homes.   The other rooms had the baseboard square cut to follow the edge of the walls.   In this case my friend elected to have a return mitre into the closet to put a finished edge at the end of the baseboard run.  Usually the baseboard would terminate on a door casing,  however we elected to bring the baseboard in on a mitred close.   Looks Nice A!

The same returned Mitre goes on both sides of the closet doors.  The small 3/4" piece is endcut of another piece of baseboard and then SuperGlue attaches it to the longer length of baseboard.

We also did the second bedroom where the closet was wrapped in flat mahogany casing.  A slightly different style but a beautiful job just the same.

The end result is a smooth finished look.
I   Love helping friends with the projects they want to do to make their home restored.
With This project my friend also wanted a headboard restored  that she had received.

The headboard was found as a gift from a friend who provided it with no hardware.   It was a beautiful headboard that was very old but in rough shape with peeling paint,  scratches and Mildew.

Soo,  we repainted the whole thing with a Great Colour from Lowes Cabinet paint,  called White on White,  through my HVLP Sprayer.

Here is a picture of the new headboard all Setup in the bedroom we completed the baseboard on.

This is what the headboard looked like beforehand.

It took an hour and forty minutes of sanding to get the mildew, and scratches out, and bring the surface to a smooth level.

There was also some delamination occurring that I reglued and reattached.

The back of this headboard had some real roughness that I smoothed out.
After the First coat of primer,  the surface was starting to look pretty smooth.

Then after 2 coats of finish paint,  the headboard looked brand new with a  great pearl finish shine.

Now it looks right at home in its brand new bedroom.

We also hung some new lights on the ceiling to go with the new design of the bedroom.

And a new Light in the Dining Room for a new look in the updated house.

Now my friend is very happy to invite company over to her guest suite with new baseboard,  lights,  and a stylish looking headboard.
