Along comes a dresser from a man named Mike.   It had been in his family for a lifetime or two.
The top  solid pine and the finish seventies orange.  Lovely  partridge family style.
And so we started to remove all the hardware and strip and sand the top and sides of the furniture down

Sometimes dropping water on top of all the dents will allow them to swell out partway back so you don't have to sand out so much.  But then sometimes its nice to leave some of the dents in old furniture after sanding.  I heard that's called CHARACTER. ( Thankfully I have a few dents myself.)

One of the wheels under the drawers was broken above, so we went to Home Depot and bought a roller,  shaved off the one side with my angle grinder and cantilevered it on the back of the fascia so the drawer would have a new roller to slide on.

Here is some more before and after shots of the stripping off the old finish.

Now we are applying my favourite stain Goudey,

and in keeping with the Theme for Jacks bedroom we chose Oak Fumed, and laid Classic Grey on top of it.  This in trying to achieve the look of the furniture at Restoration Hardware.

Some new hand pulls on the drawers after 3 coats of waterborne Saman finish.

I think Jack's friends are enjoying their new home,

And the smooth gliding drawers are providing him a new lease on the bedroom, as a handsome upgrade from the old white baby furniture he used to have.
